Building Inclusive Solutions: Enhancing Accessibility Across a Health Care Platform

After receiving a comprehensive WCAG report about our product’s registration process, we recognized the need for immediate improvements. The project involved addressing accessibility gaps in the dashboard, and streamlining the new customer registration process to ensure an inclusive and compliant user experience.

I spearheaded the implementation of the report’s findings, applying feedback to both the existing dashboard and the new customer registration journey. Beyond making immediate fixes, I introduced a set of detailed web style guides to standardize accessibility and design practices across the platform. These guides ensured consistency in elements like color contrast, typography, and navigation, providing a framework for future updates.

The project wasn’t without its hurdles. My limitations were many—I had to stay within the current framework. I faced push back from the original development team, requiring thoughtful communication and strategic advocacy to align everyone on the importance of accessibility. Additionally, auditing and redesigning the dashboard—an interface I was initially unfamiliar with—demanded a steep learning curve and extra diligence to meet compliance standards without disrupting functionality.

The updated dashboard and registration process now meet WCAG standards and are well-received by both the labor union client and internal stakeholders. The introduction of web style guides not only improved immediate outcomes but also equipped the company with tools to maintain accessibility and design excellence moving forward.
